Washington Square faces a rare opportunity to continue its architectural evolution through the proposed Robert Venturi designed condominium to be built on the site of the Dilworth House.

As one of four original squares designed by William Penn to provide balance and civility to the City, Washington Square’s architecture has continually changed and adapted through the 19th and 20th century.

The new building will extend this tradition by adding to the Square a Venturi-inspired work showcasing Philadelphia’s greatest contemporary architect. It is a homecoming of sorts for Philadelphian Robert Venturi, whose scholarly writings and works have defined a new school of American architecture but whose work has never graced Center City or its residential properties.
